GARRY HYNES (Director) is artistic director
of Druid. She was also artistic director of
the Abbey (1990–1994). Credits include
DruidSynge (Edinburgh International
Festival and Inis Meáin 2005; Minneapolis
and New York 2006); The Leenane Trilogy.
West End and B’way: The Beauty Queen of
Leenane, A Skull in Connemara, The
Lonesome West and works by Marina Carr,
Tom Murphy and Sean O’Casey. Honorary
doctorates: University of Dublin, the
National University of Ireland and the
National Council for Education Awards. In
1998, she became the first woman to receive
a Tony Award for Direction for The Beauty
Queen of Leenane. On June 15, 2006, she
was awarded the Freedom of her native city
of Galway.
