Job Description: Director, Institutional Giving
Class: Full time, non union
Location: 43rd Street offices
FLSA Status: Exempt, Salaried

Summary Description: The Director, Institutional Giving is a key position in MTC’s Development Department. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Director, Institutional Giving oversees MTC’s fundraising effort from corporate, foundation and government sources.

Manhattan Theatre Club, a Tony Award-winning not-for-profit theatre company dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a high-energy individual to join the company’s Development team in the Institutional Giving department. With an annual budget of $20+ million, MTC produces seven shows annually in its three theatre complex.

Job Responsibilities :
  • Lead the development and implementation of fundraising stratagem in the areas of corporate, foundation and government funding;
  • Work with the Director of Development, the Executive Producer, the MTC Board of Directors and other MTC staff to identify prospects;
  • Cultivate and solicit funding through compelling and comprehensive funding proposals and presentations;

Write and/or administer the writing of proposals, reports, acknowledgements, briefings, internal memos, donor correspondence and other necessary documents;

Act as a liaison between Development Department and Education, Business and Artistic Departments for the purposes of creating funding proposals, integrated materials and gathering information to share with donors;

Act as a liaison between funders and MTC staff and board (coordinate meetings and site visits, etc.);

Create income projections and track actual income received; 

Monitor, track, and administer actions to move a prospect through the fundraising cycle, including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and renewal;

Supervise a team of four (two managers, an associate and an intern) and through that:

Oversee the production of the company’s annual report;

Oversee benefit fulfillment to corporate funders (maintain up-to-date and accurate crediting in printed and online materials, reserve tickets, coordinate entertainment and education events);

Oversee campaign for Annual Spring Gala (write & coordinate solicitation letters with Board Members, track sales, maintain sales spread sheets and guest lists, research prospects, establish and maintain relationships with Gala supporters);

Oversee the transfer of corporate, foundation and government funder information and documents into arts fundraising software, Tessitura ;

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required. Five years of Development or similar non-profit performing arts experience is required. The ideal candidate is a high-energy, hard-working professional with excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced env iron ment is a must. A proven track record with face to face solicitations is a plus.

Supervises: Managers of Institutional Giving, Institutional Giving Associate and Institutional Giving Intern

Special Interactions: In addition to the Director of Development, the Director, Institutional Giving will work closely with the other development directors, the Director of Finance, the education staff and artistic staff members and the Executive Producer. The Director of Institutional Giving also has interaction with members of the MTC Board of Directors on an occasional basis.
