Designing the extravagant costumes for The Royal Family, George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber’s comic masterpiece, is any costume designer’s dream. In addition to creating clothes indicative of the Roaring 20s, the designer has the additional task of providing multiple costumes for some of the most entertaining characters in American drama. Meeting the challenge for MTC’s production of The Royal Family is four time Tony Award winner Catherine Zuber, whose recent Broadway credits include Doubt, Mauritius, South Pacific, and The Coast of Utopia. Zuber provides her own vision for these characters, as seen in the following costume sketches.
