Community TeamWorks gives Goldman Sachs employees one day off to volunteer in team-based projects coordinated with local nonprofit organizations. Community TeamWorks celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2006 with record participation. More than 18,000 volunteers worked in with 619 nonprofit community partners worldwide on a variety of projects, including building homes, mentoring youth, and restoring our environment.
Goldman Sachs and MTC are committed to creating exciting new possibilities in employee volunteer programs. In May of this year, MTC hosted 10 Goldman Sachs volunteers and 20 youths from a local nonprofit organization, Firehouse Academy. They participated in a workshop which focused on the play Based on a Totally True Story during the morning and attended the production at New York City Center’s Stage II later that afternoon. Throughout the workshop, students and volunteers focused on “story theatre,” taking an event and looking at it from the perspective of several characters, a theatrical device that was used throughout the production. This activity was particularly effective at encouraging dialogue between the adults and the youths, as they created theatre (improvisations and short written scenes) based on true stories from their own lives.
Community TeamWorks is a great opportunity for Goldman Sachs and MTC to work together on MTC’s Education Program while providing opportunities for employees to give back to their community through volunteer service. MTC is grateful to Goldman Sachs for its longtime support and looks forward to continuing this valuable partnership.
